Most roof leaks are not caused by the whole roof failing. They are caused by one small detail letting go, usually a slipped tile, a hairline crack in a ridge, a perished lead flashing or a blocked valley. Find it early and the repair is straightforward. Leave it and the water gets into the timbers, the plaster and eventually the floor below.
