Lead work is where roofs are usually won or lost. C&J Construction & Roofing LTD forms and dresses code 4 and code 5 milled lead flashings, step flashings, soakers, cover flashings, valleys, chimney trays and bay window roofs to Lead Sheet Association guidance, across Wakefield and West Yorkshire.
Most persistent roof leaks trace back to lead, not tiles. Cheap flashing cement smeared over a joint, lead sheets cut too long so they buckle and split, or a chimney where the flashing was never chased into the brickwork in the first place.
Done correctly, lead lasts sixty years or more. Done badly it fails inside three winters.
We carry out:
- Chimney step and cover flashings, chased into the mortar bed and wedged
- Front aprons and back gutters to chimney stacks
- Abutment flashings where a roof meets a wall
- Lead lined valleys between roof pitches
- Bay window and porch roofs in lead
- Dormer cheeks and tops
- Parapet and box gutter linings
We respect the correct sheet sizes and expansion joints so the lead can move with temperature change instead of fatiguing and cracking. That single detail is the difference between a flashing that lasts and one that does not.
